2012 First Mission Trip To Haiti

The   first   experience   with   COEHNA   Orphanage   was   November   2012.   Our vice   president,   Pat   True,   went   with   12   other   missionaries.   The   primary project   for   the   trip   was   to   build   a   security   wall   for   the   orphanage.   The property   had   3   walls,   but   the   fourth   wall   was   only   one   foot   higher   than the    ground.    For    five    days    the    missionary    team    carried    cinderblocks across    the    property    and    helped    raise    the    final    wall    to    provide    the children protection in their home. One   day,   we   had   the   opportunity   to   join   another   mission   group,   that   was staying   at   the   same   location   as   us,   go   into   the   community   and   provide medical   care.   In   the   4   hours   we   were   in   the   village,   approximately   125 people   were   able   to   be   seen   by   the   nurses   and   doctor,   receive   referrals for needed follow up care, and receive needed medications.

Our Story

2013 Mission Trip

In July 2013, our President, Laura True,  and board member, Erin True, traveled with 4 other missionaries to Haiti. The purpose of the trip was to build relationships with the children at the orphanage. The children thrived on the love that was shown to them by the entire team. The departure day from the orphanage demonstrated how wonderful these children are, as the children comforted the missionaries saying God would watch over the missionaries and God would keep them strong. A truly eye-opening and heart warming experience to see these children who have so little being concerned for others and providing support.

2014 Mission Trip

This year was the first year Erin and Calvin True, age 17 and 15 respectively at the time, traveled to Haiti without their parents being with them. This was a life changing trip, as Erin returned and decided to change her career to path to something that would enable her to work directly in countries that have high needs for agricultural development in local communities. This trip taught the missionaries to be adaptable and ready to serve in any manner, regardless of the original plan. Instead of building a wood structure, as planned, the missionaries built a cinderblock room that the orphanage needed. The group had woodworking talent and training, but ended up learning masonry skills instead.

2015 Mission Trip

This trip set in motion the formulation of Psalm 82:3. Most of the current board of directors went to Haiti on this trip, Cindy Gonzales, Jenna Reblin, Gordon Koenig, Steve Self, Laura True, and Patrick True. The focus for the trip was to provide the children a vacation bible school and take them to the beach for a day of fun. The children demonstrated that they are very knowledgeable about Bible stories and verses in the Bible. The favorite activity for the children, by far (not counting the beach), was BINGO. As the group was working on other activities during the rest of the week, random shouts of “ BINGO” were heard until the activity changed back to playing BINGO. In addition to providing VBS, the team was also able to begin building additional walls to add onto the room that was built the previous year for additional space for school. The 2015 trip provided the spark for Psalm 82:3 to become a 501(c)(3) corporation. During the trip, the pastor at the orphanage openly talked about the needs of the orphanage. Through those conversations, it became clear that we needed to increase our support by making some minor changes to increase awareness, as well as opportunities for people to be involved. The best way to accomplish the changes needed  was to create a tax-exempt charity that focused 100% on the care for children in Haiti.
